Learn to Crochet Your First Granny Square

Hi there, Learning to Crochet the beloved Granny Square is an absolute classic and workshop that I've loved teaching for over thirteen years now. So for this tutorial I've put together a YouTube Tutorial and have added a free PDF pattern that you can download, if you'd like to look at written instructions and familiarise yourself with a pattern.

I've made a Right and Left handed version of the video, and not abbreviated any crochet terms in the pattern, so it's all very clear to watch and read. Just scroll down to make your first Granny Square by following the YouTube Video alone, but if you would like a copy of the pattern you will find it on my main website on the Crochet Patterns page, or simply download it HERE There is both a Right and Left handed version of the video and I take you step-by-step, from making that first slipknot, through making a 4 rounds of a Granny Square, to sewing in your ends afterwards.

This project is one of my YouTube "Beginners" Learn to Crochet series and you'll be learning to make a slip stitch, a chain and the (UK) treble stitch. For my Beginners Granny Square workshops, I like to use two colours, as this will make it a lot easier for you to see the correct spaces that you'll be crocheting into. I've used a 4mm hook and Stylecraft Special DK yarn, but you could equally use a 5mm hook with some (UK) Aran weight yarn, or a 6mm hook with (UK) weight chunky yarn. So for now, I hope you find the video tutorial useful and that you enjoy making your first Granny Square.

Happy crocheting and all the best

Wendy xx
